Save Water Swindon Campaign
As a nation we each use on average 150 litres of water per day, around 15 buckets full of this precious resource. All of this water is being taken from local rivers and water stored naturally in the ground and when we take too much it puts the environment under pressure. Save Water Swindon is a campaign that has been launched to help all Swindon residents to reduce the amount of water we use by 20 litres a day to help reduce some of this pressure.
As a further incentive, by reducing the amount of water you use at home you will also be reducing your energy bills, as heating water is responsible for 25% of the average household energy bill. A family of four could save up to £80 on their annual energy bill.
Finally, treating and pumping water and waste-water accounts for 1% of UK greenhouse gas emissions, and domestic water heating is responsible for 5% of UK greenhouse gas emissions. Each person that takes on the 20 Litre Challenge could potentially save 34.7 kg CO2e a year!
You can make a pledge to save 20 litres of water a day via the website http://www.savewatersw...g.uk .
The website will identify the five top tips to saving 20 litres a day and also give you a chance to sign up for a FREE Water Saving Makeover where one of our trained Environmental Assessors will visit your home and install water saving devices in your kitchen, toilet and bathroom (the visit and all devices are provided FREE to all Swindon residents).
